Protests Bigger Outside DNC After Democratic Party WalkOut

Bernie's supporters wept in the aisles at the DNC on Monday night 7/25/2016 (Photo: disneyabc/flickr/cc)

Bernie Sanders‬' final speech as a presidential candidate was like the end of a kung-fu movie, where we are called to defeat our own master as a proof of training.

During a televised town hall meeting in April 2016, Senator Sanders told the viewing audience that he could not snap his fingers and make his supporters vote for Hillary Clinton. He said that he should not make that decision for them. And they should not listen to him. They should make that decision for themselves... "It would be up to Hillary Clinton to appeal to my voters, to earn their votes," he said.

In her rush to woo Republican money and Republican voters, Hillary has failed to appeal to Bernie Sanders voters. Her focus even during the DNC in Philly was on making big-money deals from the Ritz.

During a televised town hall meeting in April 2016, Senator Sanders told viewers that he could not snap his fingers and make his supporters vote for Hillary Clinton. He said that he should not make that decision for them, and they should not listen to him about who to vote for. They should make that decision for themselves. "It would be up to Hillary Clinton to appeal to my voters, to earn their votes," he said.

In her rush to woo Republican votes -- Hillary has chosen a center-right Vice President running mate. she has failed to appeal to Bernie Sanders voters. Her focus even during the DNC in Philly was on making big-money deals from the Ritz.

Electing Hillary Clinton could potentially be no different than electing someone like Margaret Thatcher or Indira Gandhi, so there was no reason for the “political revolution” to be silent at the convention in the face of Clinton Democrats, constantly devaluing the meaning of our struggle to reform and expand a corrupted political system.

So, instead, hundreds of Bernie delegates and supporters staged a WalkOut. They held impromptu press conferences in the lobby and then joined the all-day protest events in the streets outside the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia... The crowds in the street, far outnumbered the convention goers inside.

Black Men for Bernie joined Dr. Cornel West to endorse Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein outside the DNC in Philly, where she spoke at a Bernie Or Bust Rally that included Green Party - Black Lives Matter - and Bernie Sanders supporters. The crowd chanted "Jill Not Hill, Jill Not Hill."  ---- "We are the ones, we have been waiting for" said Dr. Stein.

This is what Democracy looks like! Bernie Sanders supporters wept on Monday night, during his final speech as a presidential candidate. On Tuesday, following the roll call vote, they staged a Walk Out! They walked out of the Democratic Party. The #Demexit was in protest against a national political party that had used its massive resources to discredit and defeat their movement to get money out of politics -- especially out of elections.

This year, the DNC moved in the opposite direction: Reopening the gates to allow federal lobbyists to flood the Democratic Party with lobbyist money.

It's been a hard-fought year, of people sacrificing financially and draining themselves physically to make phone calls, knock on doors and travel to support The People's Candidate --- an honest politician, running in the Democratic Party on New Deal Democratic policy. The campaign has proven that when you honestly represent the people you do not need to be SOLD OUT to big-money donors and global corporations. That is why many of us believe that Bernie Sanders could not have been more proud of us than when we Boo'ed him, when he said, "It's time to elect Hillary Clinton."
In June, Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, “I don’t think Hillary Clinton can lead a political revolution.” He insisted millions want to see the Democratic Party transform from a party of wealthy campaign contributors to a party of the middle class and the “47 million people living in poverty.” But Sanders has not made the case to his supporters that the Democratic Party has started any transformation, even with the energy of the “political revolution."
Sanders appears to be extremely concerned about how the Democratic Party will turn him into a pariah if he does not play by their rules and support Clinton like they demand.
In falling in line, he is fracturing a part of the left, which he united in order to build unity with the corporate wing of the Democratic Party, which has tremendously failed the working class and sold out the poor in the past --- and given rise to this year's insurgent candidate within the Republican Party: Donald Trump.
He risks the unity his political campaign forged among disaffected people throughout the country. He threatens the solidarity among movements, which see Clinton as toxic.
Back in 1991, Sanders said, “What we need in this country is what Jesse Jackson calls a Rainbow Coalition, but it has to be done outside the Democratic Party.” He acknowledged that most people argue the Democratic Party is where the working class and labor unions are so everyone should work within that political party. But he argued “for millions of Americans both parties are looked upon with derision, with disrespect. Polls show that half the American people don’t even know the difference between the Republican and Democratic Party.”

Sanders suggested it was better to tell the truth that both parties are controlled by “big money.” ----- The ‪#‎Berniecrats‬ will continue to work within the party with Senator Sanders, who returns to the US Congress as an elected Independent.

However ‪#‎OurRevolution‬ now moves to create that "Rainbow Coalition" outside the failed ‪#‎DemocraticParty‬. Dr. Cornel West, who worked tirelessly with Senator Sanders, has endorsed Dr. Jill Stein for President on the‪#‎GreenParty‬ ticket. The Green Party US convention is in one week ---- 100 days before Nov. 8th.

Our Revolution Owes The Democratic Party Nothing!

California primary: Vote count estimated to be around 8.9 million

Leading up to the California primary, Bernie Sanders supporters waged one of the largest voter registration drives in history. Then came some stumbling blocks. If you registered as an "Independent" you most likely registered in a right-wing fringe "Independent National Party." If you were a no-party-affiliation voter, you were not mailed a ballot with Senator Sanders name on the ballot. You needed to request a "crossover" Democratic Ballot -- Not a "Democratic" ballot and in either case, poll workers were likely to give you a "Provisional" ballot that would not be counted on election day. Provisional ballots were given out like candy... and there were all the usual other "errors" in place: Voters, who were registered in time for the election, not on the poll record; Voters, who registered Democrat showing up on the poll record as Republican or no-party-affiliation. The long lines, the confusion, last-minute poll location changes.. What we have seen in multiple states.

Because the Bernie Sanders campaign is a grassroots movement -- a Political Revolution that has energized millions of first-time voters and people who have not voted in years, almost 100% of the "errors" have suppressed the votes of people, who already felt disenfranchised by the nature of politics today: MONEY.

Instead of putting out the "welcome matt" to these millions of voters, the establishment-entrenched Democrats proved to "Bernie supporters" that they are just as corrupt as the Republicans -- maybe more corrupt!

The Democratic National Party and the DNC Chair, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (Hillary 2008 co-mgr.) are plaintiffs in a national class-action lawsuit that claims FRAUD - Mismanagement of DNC donations - Misrepresentation and actions directed to support and fight for Hillary Clinton during the Democratic Primaries; and a scheme that pulled in large-donor money in partnership with Democratic Party state organizations but then funneled all but 1% of that money back to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

It's tough to win a primary election when the vast resources of the DNC are being used to wage a war against your candidate, who admirably is proving that candidates can run a national campaign supported only by the voters -- contributing millions of dollars through small donations -- sans the global corporations, lobbyists and billionaires.

Rather than speak to these many issues -- President Obama has jumped in to endorse Hillary Clinton before the Democratic Contested Convention.

President Obama begun campaigning with Clinton on the same day that the head of the FBI said Hillary Clinton and her staff broke the law during the time she was Secretary of State. In fact, she was the "DEFINITION of NEGLIGENT AND CARELESS." --- Hillary pacified voters count not being indicted a WIN.

With another 7 days to count the California vote... volunteers and legal advisors are working to help poll officials understand the "intent" of voters, when they went to the polls in California and cast Democratic ballots, crossover-ballots and provisional ballots. The vote has flipped to Bernie Sanders in at least nine counties and Mrs. Clinton's lead has been cut in half thus far. The gap is 7%.

The fiasco that was the California primary begs the question, "Why do we have political parties that are allowed to set rules that suppress the vote of people, who do not want to belong to political parties?" -- "Why do we have political parties that set the rules for who the people are allowed to hear at national political debates?"

Senator Bernie Sanders will be heading to a Contested Democratic Convention -- Hillary Clinton did not WIN enough votes from the people to be the nominee. Senator Sanders may feel compelled to support "the Democratic nominee" but he does not OWN #OurRevolution... that is the product of years of frustration, and in part in debt to the #Occupy movement.

WE THE PEOPLE do not "owe" the Democratic Party ANYTHING!
That's why we are taking them to court!! Personally, I was #NeverHillary from Day One --- and she is the epitome of pay-to-play self-enrichment that ignores the voices of the people and ALWAYS honors the big-donors, especially the Wall Street money boys that reap profits for the 1% elite via investment in foreign labor and global corporations. Our Revolution does not end with a vote for the Anti-Revolution Candidate, Hillary Clinton.

There are other pathways.

Personally, I will be hoping for a "BernStein" Green Party ticket. But I will vote for Dr. Jill Stein before Corrupt Corporate Democrat Hillary Clinton. It will be the best use of my vote -- Because we need more than the two-party system that is NOT REPRESENTING THE PEOPLE!

The Democrats as much as the Republicans are responsible for why there is a Donald Trump campaign.

If Democrats did their job -- They would be representing Working Class and Middle Class Americans instead of BANKSTERS and Global Investors and CEO's.

Learn more about The Green Party!

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION: Anyone who tries to change the Democratic Party from within is undermined at every step by corporate-funded elites who control the party top down. The only way they prevent a true party for the people from gaining a mass following is by trying to control who gets in the debates.

Who Killed FDR's New Deal in favor of US-Global Government?

"Who Stole the American Dream" with commentary from Bernie Sanders about the Clinton "New Democrats."

HEIST. Watch it.
[FULL MOVE HERE]

The makeover of the US government -- from protecting the people to representing the wealthiest people in the USA and the world was a bipartisan effort that involved Republicans and the "New Democrats."

Republican President Ronald Reagan introduced the idea of a "trickle-down" economy that would somehow benefit all Americans by favoring those at the top with massive tax cuts -- But the destruction of the free-press, many social programs and an open-door for massive shifts of wealth to the top 1% via Wall Street investment in foreign labor is equally linked to the Clinton's New Democratic movement that put Corporate Democrats, many of them former Republicans in control of the Democratic Party.

Clinton New Democrats were major players! They deregulated the banks and further eliminated media protection -- and diverted $55 billion in six years from child-welfare and housing programs to build prisons, creating the school-to-prison pipeline, alongside their Republican allies. They lied to the American people about NAFTA and other free-trade agreements that only drove down wages.

Flash-forward: A New Progressive movement, led by Senators Bernie Sanders and the Congressional Progressive Caucus is rallying the people to fight back against harmful environmental Fracking, KeystoneXL pipeline and more disastrous free-trade agreements.

The 2016 election is "We The People" vs Global Corporations and their Global Billionaire Owners and Investors.

Hint: The ‪Clintons‬ have amassed $153 million in personal wealth, including very very recent personal gains of $675,000 for three "talks" by Hillary Clinton to the internationally notorious Goldman Sachs banksters!... of course, Clinton REFUSES to #ReleaseTheTranscripts (watch the debate video) of those talks!

The Clinton Family Foundation has been called an international money laundering organization, which raked in tens of millions from the Saudi, Chinese and Russians while Clinton was US Secretary of State.
‎Progressive Democrats have fought for years for the SOUL of "the working man's party" only to be kicked aside by Clinton-Corporate Democrats.

Florida Progressive Congressman ‪Alan Grayson lost his race for US Senate to a former-Republican (who gave the max personal donation to Romney 2012.)

Florida Congressional Dist. 23 Tim Canova lost his primary fight AGAINST (recently resigned) Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, one of the most corrupt politicians in the USA.

In Florida - Here are the candidates worth voting for on Nov. 8th.

Why Do Ferguson Oath Keepers Want To Arm Protesters?

This has the potential of ending badly in #Ferguson. I seriously hope the #OathKeepers know what they are doing. --- Please don't start an armed race war in my country.

I am more for non-violent peace march/civil rights.. Is that sadly no longer possible in Ferguson and elsewhere?

The same topic of "violence and arrests" has been raised by members of the #Occupy movement, arrested in NYC and elsewhere, and held in jail to await trial in cases that often involved excessive bonds for minor charges, which were sometimes not even understandable.

At a town hall meeting in Boone, Iowa, Aug. 15th -- Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders told his audience that each of them might be personally needed to March on Washington. The idea raised fear among the mostly white audience. "How can we know that we will be safe if we protest and demand changes in Congress that powerful corporations are against?" was the question.

"It will be hard, but not impossible," said Senator Sanders. "When we rise up in very large numbers, we can protect each other."

In Ferguson, Missouri on Aug. 15th -- The Missouri chapter of the Oath Keepers announced plans for an open-carry march through downtown Ferguson that will include 50 black protesters, armed with AR-15 rifles.

The decision to hold the event transpired after St. Louis County officers, in violation of Missouri's open carry law, insisted that members of the group could not open carry long barrel rifles within the city --- and the group realized that no black protester would ever feel safe on the street, openly carrying a fire arm.

"Every person we talked to said, if they carried, they'd be shot by police. That's the reason we're going to hold this event and it will be a legal demonstration," said Sam Andrews, head of the St. Louis County, Missouri Oath Keepers group.

Oath Keepers are made up mainly of current and former military and law enforcement officers, who have sworn an oath to protect the Constitution, ahead of any law or command given that violates the rights of citizens.

Mainstream media tends to paint the Oath Keepers as some kind of quasi-racist fringe right wing militia group, with explicit implication that blacks should fear them.

In actuality, Anderson said, "We have people from all different races on our security team. We're not racist and we wouldn't tolerate anyone in our organization who was racist." The group has captured the national spotlight for its effort to protect stores from looters, as well as offer people in the community a better sense of "safety and protection."

That can also include a greater sense of safety and protection for black protesters, he said. "Every person we talked to said if they carried, they'd be shot by police. That's the reason we're going to hold this event and it will be a legal demonstration."

You can follow the discussion at thefreethoughtproject.com.

Because I am a civil rights - peace marching child of the 1960's I DO BELIEVE that we will fully overcome racism in this country, only if #WeStandTogether to MAKE #BlackLivesMatter, and this greatly depends on seeing the URGENCY!

-- More than 1,100 people have been shot and killed by police in this country, just this year.
Is the crisis diminished because not every lost life was black? --- NO!

Is this a "black issue" best solved by only people of color? --- NO!

The current atmosphere of police brutality is coming down heavy on all people, who buck the system -- who stand up to "establishment government." --- But the hand of the law comes down heaviest on the most vulnerable protesters, the poor and people of color, and the LBGT community.

When Sandra Bland was drug out of a car, handcuffed and arrested in Waller County, Texas for (possibly) making an illegal lane change, we all watched the video and thought exactly what Senator Sanders said, "That would never have happened if she had been a middle-class white woman." --- The fact that she later died in jail only heaps insult onto the already despicable example of racial victimization.

There is no doubt that racist injustice exists, from cops to courts to the mass incarceration in privatized prisons for profit --- The crisis has reached what we can only hope is a turning point, because we now have a greater portion of our citizens in jail than in any other place in the WORLD.

Which is why, I really want to understand this effort by the Oath Keepers in #Ferguson to arm black protesters with AR-15's for an "Epic Rights-Flexing March." -- It seems like a high-risk effort. But there are many people in the Ferguson neighborhood, who describe the Oath Keepers as pretty level-headed guys, who always think things through.

"This march is a great thing, because it shows solidarity among Americans of all backgrounds. It shows that U.S. citizens are united in standing up for each other and our great nation," commented one woman.

Symone Sanders, the face of the national Bernie Sanders campaign says, "We are all doing Black Lives Matter work. For some of us, it's policy -- Some of us it's advocacy, some of us it's activism, but we all have a place -- whether we are in the streets, or working to advance policy and understanding.

She is personally a young black, juvenile justice advocate based in Washington D.C., working to help young people and convicted felons caught up in an unjust system.

Bernie Sanders is the candidate, who will have the courage to end the "war on drugs" and fight to close privatized prisons for profit, she told CNN.

I am listening! ----- Mary Jo Pezzi, an Iowa girl and Florida transplant.

Neil Young On Tar Sand Oil

Watch the very short film and see what the Harper Government of Canada is doing to the local Indians all in the name of tar sand oil.

It's criminal and they want to bring that crud through our Midwest.

Take a look at the future.

Canadian rock icon, Neil Young weighs in on the tar sands debate.

Recently the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation hosted Neil Young and Daryl Hannah's visit of the Fort McMurray area.

Watch the video and hear what he had to say about the proposed Keystone XL pipeline -- "People are sick, people are dying of cancer, their food supply is threatened, all the animals up there are dying," he said. "It looks like Hiroshima. This is truly a disaster."

Neil Young, one of Canada’s best-known singer-songwriters since the 1960s, told an event in Washington yesterday that he recently traveled to Alberta, where “much of the oil comes from, much of the oil that we’re using here, which they call ethical oil because it’s not from Saudi Arabia or some country that may be at war with us.”
He was at a National Farmers Union event on Capitol Hill meant to support alternative fuels, such as ethanol, which he did at length, slamming Big Oil and talking about his own LincVolt, an old Continental that runs on ethanol and electricity.
Here’s what he said about the oil sands:
“The fact is, Fort McMurray looks like Hiroshima. Fort McMurray is a wasteland. The Indians up there and the native peoples are dying. The fuels all over – the fumes everywhere – you can smell it when you get to town. The closest place to Fort McMurray that is doing the tar sands work is 25 or 30 miles out of town and you can taste it when you get to Fort McMurray. People are sick. People are dying of cancer because of this. All the First Nations people up there are threatened by this.”

CEO's Take Big Profit Share In USA

Nobody in the United States should be okay with this...

CEO's used to make 40 times the average worker's pay in the USA - only 30 years ago. Now they make 400+ times the average worker... and they have union and non-union workers fighting each other, while complaining about "illegals" and people on "welfare" .. come on people stop listening to News Corporation - FOX News & Friends -- Rupert Murdoch is NOT your "Friend."

Walmart Black Friday Strike Over Welfare Wages

Walmart Workers Black Friday Strike in 12 States! Workers want "full time" employment instead of "part-time less than 35 hours - low wages and no benefits!" MakingChangeAtWalmart.org

David Garcia is among those protesting. He says that he worked at the NFI facility (national distribution warehouse for Walmart) for a year as a temp earning $8 an hour without benefits. Before being let go last month, Garcia was employed as a "lumper" -- someone who loads and unloads containers on the warehouse docks. He typically got around 30 hours per week, he said.

"I was promised a 90-day probation period when I started," Garcia told HuffPost. "It's been a year and they're not talking about me being hired [full-time], or getting any benefits, no raises, not even a promotion for me to start driving a forklift. I've got five kids and a wife to support and that’s really impossible with $8 dollars an hour."

The six Walmart heirs have an income that is equal to the total income of the bottom 30% of the American people, yet they pay $7 and $8 per hour wages and hold people to "part-time less than 35 hours with no beneifts"... How can that be right? In the meanwhile, the American TAXPAYER is picking up the bill for these under-paid workers who rely on Medicaid and Food Stamps in order to live!

Become A Citizen Co-Sponsor of "Saving American Democracy"

"We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hand of a few, but we cannot have both." - Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, 1941.

Circa 2012, the US Census for the first time reports fewer than 50% of the people have "middle class" earnings and the top 20% of the nation's wealth is now concentrated in the top 1% among about 400 families. Thanks to a Supreme Court ruling in favor of Citizens United, multi-national corporations based in the United States now have unlimited power to donate $millions via Karl Rove Super-Pacs and others to influence elections. Corporations pay few taxes but have a loud voice, and have further lobbied to "discourage" voting via new voting regulations introduced in 26 GOP-governed states by their lawyers via the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC.)

Thanks to social media and stockholder activists, the world's two biggest soft drink companies -- Pepsi and Coca-Cola will no longer be members of the ALEC, which was also behind the so called "Stand Your Ground" gun laws in more than two dozen states. All 435 members of the US House of Representatives are up for re-election in 2012. I say, "UNPLUG & REBOOT!"

From China to Occupy Wall Street: Art is My Weapon

"Liberty" is an expression of art, says Chinese artist-activist Ai Weiwei, who returned to make his home in China after thousands of students were killed at Tienanmen Square in Beijing in 1989. [ Please watch the full length BBC documentary below]

I was at Occupy Wall Street in NYC in October 2011, and when I traveled to Miami in December to enjoy Art Basel -- I was also greeted by "Occupy Art Basel" posters in shops along Lincoln Road, and in an exhibit building near the New World Center, where an outdoor film festival celebrated 10 years of Art Basel.

"Art is My Weapon" was stenciled onto the front walkway leading up to this year's "American" themed Rubell Family Collection Show in Miami and a large room at the start of the exhibit was filled with Roman columns and military assault rifles and the debris of war, all covered over by thick gold paint.

Guests were treated to "milk and honey" - Milk that they received from a sterile incubator room and honey that dripped from somewhere above, which could be caught in a spoon or spooned off of a white slab... Art makes you think.

About where we have come from ...

And where we are today ...

Occupy the Courts will be a one day occupation of Federal courthouses across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on Friday January 20, 2012, which is the second anniversary of the "Corporate Personhood" decision that gave citizenship rights to corporations to donate to election funds and influence Congress.

I just watched this fascinating BBC documentary about the great Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei.

This is a full length BBC Documentary with Chinese artist - activist Ai Weiwei, who designed the bird's nest stadium at the Beijing Olympics, and brought together a village of 1,600 artists for more than two years to hand make 100 million porcelain sunflower seeds as a tribute to the history of the Chinese people. He experienced the NYC art scene of the 1980's and was fascinated by social protests and the Iran Contra trials. He returned to make his home in China after thousands of students were killed at Tienanmen Square. His modern art often pays homage to the art that was destroyed during Mao's "Cultural Revolution" and also serves to tell the story of today's China with honesty and without fear. ... He is a true inspiration to "Arab Spring" and #Occupy movement artist - activists - and protesters.

Occupy Protesters Take Message to Rose Bowl Parade 2012

"Everything is Not coming up Roses" was the message delivered to millions of Rose Bowl Parade viewers, January 2nd in Pasadena, California -- where hundreds of "Occupy the Rose Parade" protesters carried banners and marched alongside a float depicting big banks as a giant octopus.

OCCUPY's FIVE PRIMARY DEMANDS:
(1) Take Corporate Money out of Politics: (A) Reverse Chief Justice Roberts & Supreme Court "Citizens United" ruling; (B) Continue with immediate congressional action to Ban Corporate Money from all US Federal & State Elections

(2) Regulate Corporations: Reinstitution of the 1930s "Glass Steagal" wall that separated investment and commercial banking functions -- No universal banks.

(3) Make Banks Accountable: Investigate fraud and prosecute CEOs & banks that benefited from the dot-coma & real estate ponzi schemes of 1998-2008.

(4) Immediately restore the Capital Gains' post 9/11's 15% tax level to pre-G.W. Bush era (i.e. 30%; Capital Gains Tax rate was 49% late '60s)

(5) Immediate Foreclosure Relief for Americans with provisions for tangible asset equity drawdowns for major banks which unfairly structured loan provisions during the 2000-2008 time period, especially Bank of America (owner of Countrywide's mortgage asset portfolio) and Citibank.

Why Occupy Wall Street is "Occupy Male Street"

How can we, as the people of the world overcome greed in an abundant, male-dominate society in order to address world poverty, health issues, education and income inequaltiy?

The question was posed by Singularity University Executive Director Salim Ismail at an independently organized TEDx Bay Area event, December 8, 201l, titled "Occupy Male Street."

Singularity University at the NASA Ames Research Park in Silicon Valley has assembled a world class community of thoughtful leaders, academics, and entreprenuers across many fields of exponentially advancing technologies (nanotechnology, genetics, medicine, artificial intelligence, etc.) in order to address humanity’s greatest challenges. SU is training a new generation of leaders to manage exponentially growing technologies.

What we do now in regard to the use of global technology will literally catapult civilization into a higher quality of life or set back the vast majority of the world's people, said Ismail.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading -- through TED.com, annual conferences, the annual TED Prize and local TEDx events.

Men go into a "flight or fight" mode under stress - Women "befriend and tend."

These male verses female stress responses are also played out in society as civilizations shift from female to male-dominate architecture systems, and sometimes spend decades correcting the balance.

Wall Street and the globalized financial system are sadly based on an old male architecture system that tends to "chop up abundance" and distribute it among those at the top, while the emerging Internet, Open Source and Occupy movements are based on a female architecture that seeks to nurture and manage abundance, making better use of resources to overcome global issues. "That is why you see government attempts to censor and suppress the Internet with legislation like SOPA," said Ismail, who sees this as a "very damaging" move.

Legendary computer scientist Vint Cerf -- widely hailed as one of the founders of the Internet itself -- came out against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) on Dec. 16, 2011, joining a coalition of most of the Internet's major sites that are trying to foil SOPA and an PROTECT IP Act.

This week, a star lineup of tech industry bigwigs and billionaires went on the offensive on the innovation issue, launching an advertising campaign in newspapers from Silicon Valley to New York to Capitol Hill. Internet VIPs — including Google’s Sergey Brin, eBay co-founder Pierre Omidyar and Twitter’s co-founders Biz Stone, Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams — blasted the bills as having “a chilling effect on innovation.”

The greatest threat the bills pose is to startups and small businesses.

Venture capitalists argue that young Web services hinged on user-generated content would be most threatened by SOPA and Protect IP. For an investor, it makes them second guess whether to fund a startup because they don’t know if “it’s going to be around tomorrow” or be shut down, according to Brad Burnham, a partner at Union Square Ventures.

With significant backing from Google and NASA, Singularity University opened in 2009 with a renowned cast of faculty and advisors and is poised to become a world class institution for the innovation, collaboration, and leadership that will allow the world to capitalize on the great promise of technology to solve global issues.

Renowned futurist Ray Kurzweil was onboard at the launch of Singularity University at the TED conference in 2009 in Long Beach, CA. “We are now in the steep part of the exponential trajectory of information technologies in a broad variety of fields, including health, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence,” said Kurzweil. “It is only these accelerating technologies that have the scale to address the major challenges of humanity ranging from energy and the environment, to disease and poverty."

The University was founded by a group of leaders, including renowned author and futurist, Dr. Ray Kurzweil, space entrepreneur and chairman of the X PRIZE Foundation, Dr. Peter Diamandis, and Director of NASA’s Ames Research Center, Pete Worden.

The list of faculty and advisors includes several distinguished individuals, including nobel laureates and key players from major universities. Kurzweil serves as chancellor and trustee of the University, along with Diamandis as vice chancellor and trustee, and Salim Ismail, a former Yahoo executive, who works as executive director and global ambassador.

"By focusing on exponentially growing technologies and their ability to address the world’s grand challenges, this interdisciplinary institution will fill a critical need.” said Mr. Chris DiBona, speaking in 2009 on behalf of the founding corporate sponsor, Google.

The University offers several academic programs that serve as a networking hub for interdisciplinary study, and as an incubator for tomorrow’s world-altering companies.

Singularity University (SU) (www.singularityu.org) opened in June 2009 on the NASA Research Park campus with a nine-week graduate level interdisciplinary curriculum designed to facilitate understanding, collaboration, and innovation across a broad range of carefully chosen scientific and technological disciplines. The curriculum is broken out into 10 tracks as follows:
  • future studies and forecasting
  • networks and computing systems
  • biotechnology and bioinformatics
  • nanotechnology
  • medicine, neuroscience and human enhancement
  • AI, robotics, and cognitive computing
  • energy and ecological systems
  • space and physical sciences
  • policy, law and ethics
  • finance and entrepreneurship.
Those who successfully navigate the curriculum receive certificates of completion. The school also hopes to arrange for students to receive class credits that can be transferred to fully accredited universities. Applications are accepted through the school’s Web site.

In addition to the nine-week graduate level summer session, the University offers several 10-day and 3-day executive level programs throughout the year. These programs will educate and prepare today’s leaders to build and adapt their businesses to the major technological changes that will are on the horizon.

Two Million Workers Strike in Britain Over Pension Funds

London schools are closed, hospitals are handling emergency care only, and even passport agents have gone on strike in London today - Nov. 30, 2011. The massive strike by 33 public sector unions is a public announcement that the pension funds are sustainable and should not be cut in order to pay for bank bailouts.

Two million public workers are protesting the government's decision to extend retirement to age 68, double the employee's contribution and lower monthly retirement checks.
