Short of a Progressive Coup in Philly, I will be leaving the Democratic Party, How About You?

June 21, 2016 -- This week, Bernie Sanders supporters met in Chicago for a two-day "People's Summit," hosted by National Nurses United, the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in U.S. history, with close to 185,000 members. The NNU endorsed Senator Sanders early on and will continue to support him through the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, July 24-28.

Debbie Lusignan, "The Sane Progressive" invites us to look with open eyes at the larger picture of the prospect of a Clinton presidency. Clearly, for those of us committed to peace, Hillary is not our option, even though we are being shamed, cajoled, warned, and fear-baited into thinking it is our patriotic duty to vote for her.

Here is Debby's critique of Bernie Sanders' end game: An Alternative View of voting for "the lesser of two evils" vs voting for the "greater good."

"I was so inspired by the Nurses commitment to social justice. Three thousand of us heard from the publisher of The Nation magazine, the founder of Democracy NOW, Jim Hightower, and all the other stalwarts of progressive politics, old and young. Young activists shared their 'stories from the field,' inspiring us with their direct action in service of social, economic, and environmental justice," said Debbie.

                                                   

"But if Bernie continues to insist on reforming a party that produced Hillary Clinton, a party that rigged the primary process and election, a party that is pitching their conservative credentials to trump-averse Republicans, I will have to part ways with this beloved man. Short of a progressive coup at the convention, I will be leaving the Democratic Party."
